Tools of the Mind is looking for an individual that has strengths and experience in either Business Development or Marketing, and who would be willing to acquire the skills necessary to help grow our small non-profit’s PreK and Kindergarten partnerships. We are looking for someone that is creative, tenacious, and inspired by the opportunity to engage our organization in the work of helping us reach more schools and academic programs.

The Business Development & Marketing Manager develops and implements a marketing and sales plan aimed at carrying out the organization’s strategic vision of developing powerful partnerships with schools to bring Tools of the Mind to more teachers and children. This position oversees business development and marketing strategy execution, evaluates the impact of our efforts and develops and uses marketing tools to support Tools’ mission. This position works closely with both the Director of Partnership & Business Development, the Business Development Specialist and the Creative Development Manager to acquire new accounts and increase revenues. They must demonstrate impeccable sales acumen with a passion and drive for success; possess excellent communication and presentation skills; and be an effective team player with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships. This position is fully remote.

Job Functions

Business Development
  • Builds and maintains our consultative business development approach, taking responsibility for shaping and applying it with a subset of our current and prospective partners;
  • Monitors federal and state educational policy, funding and regulations, grant opportunities, early childhood research and other factors to enable Tools to be responsive and adaptive;
  • Understands the K-12 school market fully including national and local competitors and our market share;
  • Builds long-term, productive and mutually beneficial relationships with existing and new clients and partners;
  • Analyzes our efforts and their impact to support continuous improvement;
  • Highlights the features of Tool’s services and products in our outreach and contact with prospective and current partners;
  • Creates Sales Playbook to equip Business Development Team to meet with potential and current partners to support engagement and re-engagement with ultimate goal of supporting teachers to improve child outcomes at scale;
  • Uses Salesforce CRM to manage and analyze relationships with the organization’s actual and potential customers;
  • Takes initiative to develop and apply an in-depth knowledge of products to position them and communicate about products and their benefits to potential partners;
  • Works effectively with Business Development Specialist and Business Development Team to promote sales for new and existing clients to maximize scale and sustainability of Tools;
  • Leads weekly meeting with Business Development Specialist to oversee execution of strategy, problem-solve and provide coaching;
  • Participates in and/or leads meetings with prospective partners, as well as presentations of curriculum overviews to federal and state policy makers;
Marketing
  • Develops an in-depth knowledge of Tools of the Mind theory, products and services and successfully sell our solutions to new and existing clients;
  • Leads the design and implementation of an organization-wide strategic marketing plan that strengthens the Tools of the Mind identity across educational related audiences and broadens awareness of Tools of the Mind as a resource for early childhood programs;
  • Develops and executes multi-channel marketing programs promoting Tools of the Mind offerings to build our lead pipeline and increase our partnerships with schools and early childhood programs;
  • Oversees all aspects of developing marketing materials including writing copy, reviewing and approving campaigns, and on occasion working with creative agencies, printers, and other advertising vendors. Ensures that materials reflect the organization’s values and commitment to diversity and inclusion;
  • Oversees strategy, planning, and analytic review of all media for Tools of the Mind including print, digital and co-op advertising program, which may include buying ads and paid media;
  • Creates selling tools for the business development team and identifies marketing opportunities around key selling events;
  • Develops customer insights, knowledge of target audiences, decision-making behaviors, and the competitive landscape, and applies the information to support data-driven decisions, marketing plans, a sales playbook, and the content team’s development work;
  • Oversees planning for and implementation of digital marketing programs including paid search, SEO, and email marketing initiatives in order to enhance digital engagement and lead generation. Works collaboratively with agencies and web developers and entire content team;
  • Assists in managing the marketing budget and administrative functions to ensure quality and timeliness, manage accurate and timely sales activity and performance reports, analyze report data to project trends and build forecasts, maintain accurate and complete client and prospective leads in Salesforce;
  • Completes sales activity reports and presentations in a timely and professional manner to help inform organizational strategy, including project management status reports, agency and team productivity, results for paid advertising, search marketing, email programs and website performance;
  • Leads a cross-functional team, providing timely and accurate communication, analysis, updates and priority setting to ensure alignment in marketing initiatives and meeting all goals.

Special Requirements

  • Ability to effectively utilize CRM / Salesforce to create and track leads;
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with access to a car, and the ability to drive long distances to make site visits (3-5 days/week in some periods of the year);
  • Ability to travel; position will require periodic travel outside of the region (estimating 4-6 trips/year) and some travel within region may require overnight trips;
  • Must maintain a home office as this is a fully remote position;
  • Proficient using Apple computers and an iPad; excited about and willing to learn how to use new technology; competent using software including Word, Pages, Excel, PowerPoint, Keynote, and Google Apps;
  • Ability to lift, move, store marketing materials;
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate occasional early and late meetings while coordinating with virtual team working in different time zones, and to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; concentration or advanced study in business development or marketing or other relevant fields, ideal;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience developing and leading business development or marketing programs required;
  • Proven success in business development or marketing with a demonstrated/verifiable sales track record, new sales track record & goal attainment;
  • Experience managing projects or programs supporting staff, required;
  • Experience with traditional and digital marketing strategy and tactics and advertising creation, media planning, and partnership building;
  • Experience using social media for marketing products or services;
  • Familiarity and experience with early childhood education or experience in educational sales, preferred;
  • Familiarity with Google Suite and Salesforce CRM;
  • Ability to generate enthusiasm; to communicate authentic excitement about the Tools program and its impact on teachers and children and weave in knowledge of evidence and research;
  • A self-starter that is driven and comfortable with ambiguity who takes initiative and is create and solution focused;
  • A demonstrated sensitivity to cultural differences;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills –Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with wide range of constituents in diverse communities and communicate positivity, interest and passion whether by phone, in-person or video conferencing meetings, via email;

Position: Research & Evaluation Coordinator

Position Status: Regular Full-Time

Reports To: Director of Evaluation and P3 Partnerships

Job Summary

  • The Research & Evaluation Coordinator will manage all data-related
    processes and support current and future research and evaluation projects at
    Tools. This role will work closely with the Lead Evaluation & Data
    Specialist and the Director of Evaluation in project management, report and
    presentation generation, and ensuring all paperwork, data and agreements are
    secure and organized. This role will work with our partner school
    administrators and staff to build relationships that will support the smooth
    and timely completion of all projects. This role will be critical in
    ensuring the success of Tools’ Research & Evaluation plan.

Job Functions

  • Manages the data partnership and data share agreement process for our state,
    district and program partners under the direction of the Director of
    Evaluation;
  • Supports data collection, entry, cleaning, and management;
  • Creates graphs, charts, tables, etc. of data as requested and manages the
    preparation of regular and individually-requested data reports for both
    internal and external purposes;
  • Manages all administrative duties for any current, on-going and future
    research and evaluation projects;
  • Maintains and organizes all research, evaluation and partnership records in
    a secure way
  • Ensures Tools’ research, evaluation and data policies and procedures are in
    compliance with all necessary guidelines;
  • Manages communication between teachers, districts, and other participants
    before, during and after all research and evaluation-related projects;
  • Contributes to an environment that encourages respect, understanding and the
    development of skills to engage with individuals from other backgrounds and
    cultures;
  • Contributes to the success of the organization by supporting other work as
    needed;
  • Complies with all deadlines;
  • Abides by Tools policies;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    research/evaluation-related processes and documents;
  • Highly organized and detailed-oriented;
  • Proficiency with Apple products and software, online communication
    platforms, data sharing and file storage systems including Microsoft Office,
    Apple Mail, Google Suite (including Google Forms), Keynote, Pages, Preview,
    QuickTime Player, and Dropbox;
  • Contributes to the development of Tools of the Mind’s nonprofit strategic
    goals and objectives;
  • Complies with all deadlines;
