What will teachers learn?
Teachers will learn how to integrate science learning and meet Next Generation Science standards in the literacy block. We’ll dig into the foundational literacy skills and where and how they develop in Tools to set the stage for learning to read, and learn how PowerTools analytics will be teachers’ ally in identifying children’s ZPDs and skills to target in Literacy Centers and Literacy Skill Building Activities. We’ll learn how the PowerTools system integrates the underlying theory and approach to teaching and learning used in Tools classrooms, supporting intrinsic motivation, child agency, buddy interactions and providing on demand scaffolding. Teachers will leave with a plan for how to increase children’s supported reading dosage by integrating the PowerTools system into Buddy Reading2, Paired Buddy Reading and Literacy Center Must Do activities, and with knowledge and practice in how to use the system’s analytic platform to get classroom and individual level data to inform instruction. We’ll also dig into new Interactive Read Alouds and a new Literacy Center Must-Do Activity, Science Minds, that engage children in rich science content in multiple ways within each theme and across the year.
