These full-day workshops are designed for teachers and staff members who have completed the Pre-Kindergarten Year 1 Core Curriculum training. Each session in the series offers participants a chance to learn about a unique aspect of the Tools of the Mind curriculum in greater depth and detail.
PreK Beyond the Core: Play and Playful Learning
Would you like to develop some new ideas for play themes, invigorate prop-making and make-believe play practice in your program, and improve the level of play you observe? How can teachers integrate the key elements in make-believe play to weave playful learning throughout the day? In this hands-on workshop, we will explore the layers of the environment––base, theme, sensory––and discuss why each of these is vital to play development. We’ll also explore how other kinds of play––like block play–– fit into the Tools of the Mind program. Participants will leave with further understandings about intentionally integrating play throughout the day, supporting play outside of the ‘make-believe play box,’ and designing invigorating make-believe play themes.
